Original bildetekst: A German shell throws up a geyser beside their boat as Soviet troops proceed through a Norwegian fjord on their way to attack the enemy in the port of Kirkenes. Soviet troops liberated the vital port, which lies at the northeastern tip of Norway, on October 25, 1944. Also a submarino and air base, its capture deprives the Germans of the springboard from which they attacked Allied convoys delivering U.S. Lend-Lease supplies to Murmansk in Russia, and draws still tighter the ring of encirclement about Germany. This is a radiophoto sent from Moscow to the U.S.
