    Hm, "adjacent to Notre-Dame Street" is pretty vague. Even back then, Notre-Dame was pretty long. I've found some kind of mention suggesting it was near where the Planetarium is now, will have to check on some of the old maps on the Bibliotheque nationale site when I've got a moment. But thanks for your reply and the links!

    Here's a bit from an 1879 city map on the Biblio site. Chaboillez is dead centre. This bit of the city's geography has changed a lot, but indeed it's roughly in the area where the Planetarium is. (It would be nice if redevelopment of the area could revive Chaboillez Square, as Dalhousie Square was revived east of Old Montreal.)
