This photograph of the Pastoral Finance Association building, next to Admiralty House on Kirribilli Point was taken by Milton Kent prior to December 1921.
This was the date that a huge fire broke out in the building and razed it to the ground. The origin as of the fire is a mystery but it was one of the largest seen in Sydney as the building contained over 30,000 bales of wool. All of which were lost in the disaster.
For years it had been regarded by many as an eyesore and almost immediately there were calls for a more sympathetic piece of architecture to replace it on the prime piece of harbour frontage.
