The Doyle Wedding
Description: We had a request from Salty Windows for photographs of Graiguenamanagh in Co. Kilkenny, and for this one specifically. He showed it to his Dad who "rattled off nearly all the names", so we're hoping to fill in a lot of information on this large wedding group. It turns out that the Daniel Doyle who ordered the photograph was in fact the groom. Many thanks to Salty Windows' Dad for naming 15 of the 16 people in this photograph, and for sharing the story of his driving lessons at age 9! To commemorate the happy Coincidence...
Description: We were wondering about where this dinner was held. Research in contemporary newspapers revealed that there were a few Jublilee Dinners in Dublin on that Saturday 13th August in 1814. However the Lord Mayor attended the one at the Rotunda according to the Freeman's Journal, while the Lord Lieutenant "was not present". Lady Boyd as the Goddess Diana
Description: Regular visitors to this stream will know that it's been a constant struggle to find photographs with dogs in them to satisfy our resident canophile DannyM8. So in a break from scheduled programming, here's an engraving from our collections of prints and drawings. I'm going to try mix it up a bit from now on by adding some digitised maps or prints or ephemera, in addition to our daily photograph. Hope you'll all enjoy them. No doubt I'll hear about it if you don't! And as ever, any and all information will be very gratefully received... Here then is Lady Boyd, Countess of Errol (born Rebecca Lockhart) with her faithful hound, unless he's just there as an artistic prop given that she's depicted as the Huntress Diana. It is a mezzotint engraving by James McArdell after a painting by Allan Ramsay. Date: 1749 Size: Image 32 x 25 cm on sheet 35 x 25 cm NLI Ref.: EP ERRO-RE (1) II
