Try to find the spot where the photographer was standing.
Crop off a bit closer to a passageway and top part of a sky,also crop off a bit on left hand side of an image.
I think I would like to see the WHOLE image that is in the collection, and then let the user crop his own copy....

The 1890 Map of Sydney shows Petty's Hotel at the corner of Jamison Street and Clarence Street, looking north at St Phillip's Church (explains the trees and verandahs for shade).
The York apartments are there now. Google street view:
Oops! I was 90 degrees out - the verandahs and trees face EAST (or NE) on to York Street. Apologies.
