The name Gottschalk also appears, among other places in the US, in the New Orleans area, where in the mid-19th century Leon Godchaux emigrated to the area from France and operated a sugar plantation and mill. The family home is still in existence, and the Godchaux legacy lives on with many descendants, as well as a school named after the family's patriarch.
