    Presumably the guy in the light suit is getting a send-off and being given the bag ( a "Gladstone" bag) that he and the guy in the darker suit (boss?) are holding. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladstone_bag

    www.phillytrib.com/lifestyle/back-in-the-day-time-has-pas... cites a claim that the tradition of giving a gold watch upon retirement can be traced back to the 1940s and the Pepsi Company. But a good (not necessarily gold) watch would be an appropriate gift for someone planning on traveling.
