We continue to follow Mr. French on his perambulations throughout the island and from Warrenpoint up along the Ulster coast to Coleraine in County Derry. The people don't appear to have had much interest in the photographer as there is much movement captured, especially close up. looking at all the debris along the gutter perhaps there was a market on the street earlier?

We visited the Town Hall 9 years ago (golly!). A previous visit by Mr French? https://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/9265719553/

Ooo! There is a Royal plate at 16:21, five minutes earlier. Spot the differences - L_ROY_01007 - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000041886

Mr French then carted his trusty tripod across the bridge and up the hill behind for this view at 17:24 (thanks megazoom) - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000321580 (see the blind in Kennedy's first floor window in the same position) There is another photo from up there. A few years later, the ornamental trees have grown and there is a line of telegraph/telephone poles, not seen in today's view - catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000321579 (at 16:25 different day) catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000338193 (reverse view with line of poles, ie later)

No nearby streetviews today. Datewise, the rocketship fountain is from 1880, see inscription. I see a sign for John O'Kanes Wine and Spirit store at left, he is 38 in 1901, 53 in 1911. I see a Nevin in 1901, not 1911. Wait, he is listed on Hanover Place, the road to our right.

The draper etc. at left is ID KENNEDY, has to be David Kennedy, right? No such draper in 1901, 1911 census. Not in the 1890, 94 directory, but appears in the 1901 directory on Bridge Street as a Draper. There in 1907, 1910 directories too.

Anderson, J.S. & Son, drapers, are on the Diamond in 1907, but not 1910. James Shaw Anderson is retired in 1911, but son Arthur is still drapering (if not in the directory). Ah, directory entry is back in 1912. Red Herring.

No sign of motorised traffic, so pre 1910?

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/beachcomberaustralia] Near L_ROY_01007 in the catalogue is L_ROY_01006, the Belfast Bank, Portrush which is from 1898 per the DIA. L_ROY_01009 was seen previously, is believed to be 1906-09 based on fashions, and is the same day as the long shot with telegraph poles catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000321579, in megazoom there I can see the banner obscuring Andersons shop. Nevins wall writing is somewhat faded compared to todays one: Twelfth July at Coleraine, but what year?

L_ROY_01019 is earlier, Kennedy's shopfront is missing, that whole building is Doherty & Sons Cabinet Pianoforte and Carpet Warehouse.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/gnmcauley Good work there! It seems this photo is earlier than I thought at first. And my brain hurts from staring at Coleraine photos looking for telegraph poles, squares which are diamonds, and Circular Roads which are not ...
