After our sojourn in Lincoln County, Kansas yesterday we are up in the skies today with the redoubtable "Monkey Morgan" as he flew over Mountmellick in County Laois. The little town is set out in fine detail though a modern drone view would show a lot of changes!

Photographer: Alexander Campbell “Monkey” Morgan

Collection: Morgan Aerial Photographic Collection

Date: ca. April 1955

I've added a note above on what is now Mountmellick Community Arts Centre. It used to be an art deco cinema...

The local community arts centre, a 450 seater restored art deco cinema, hosts many a play or concert throughout the year. It is also home to the Mountmellick Drama Festival which occurs every March which bring the very best in Irish amateur drama to Mountmellick. The Balcony cinema also located in the Community Arts Centre is a 134 seater theatre that hosts weekly cinema screenings. This is a great opportunity to catch a classic movie for €5 in an amazing art deco theatre.

Visited Mountmellick for an embroidery class years ago and loved it - such a pretty town, nice people and lovely area of the country.
