August marks Black Business Month. In April 1942, photographer Jack Delano went to Chicago, Illinois to document Black professionals, including Miss Selma Barbour. Barbour was a milliner born in New Orleans and managed the Cecilian Specialty Hat Shop in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago. Fashion hats such as these were often seen at church services.
