Attendance faltered at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Griffith and after years of being shuttered, the church fell into disrepair. The article and photos by Terry Fleurie, reporter at the Eganville Leader, describes the situation well. Photos, video, and description of church demolition in February 2021 by Michael Mansfield, Griffith, ON:
You can see the square log wall construction. Heavy machinery nudged the bell tower slowly to begin with, then the cross wavered and the bell bonged one last time on the way down. The sun was struggling to spotlight the steeple through the falling snow as it turned over, pushed down to dust.
We started the century with horse and buggy and ended it with a helicopter on Mars. Christian Religion seems to be receding into the past here and we are advancing a new future. “God only knows.”
Part of the Michael Mansfield Album.
