Perhaps best known for her collision with the ill-fated SS Andrea Doria, M/S Stockholm is still afloat and in operation (as of January 2015) as the MV Azores for Portuscale Cruises. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Azores

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]] Thank you very much for posting the link to the interesting (and very international) history of the ship! The tragic accident of Andrea Dorea is well known, but I didn't know that a Swedish ship was involved... Here is another article on Wikipedia, about the Swedish American Line. M/S Stockholm and its story is also mentioned: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_American_Line /Anna B.

Is this the third MS Stockholm? The first burned in a fire, second was torpedoed during WW2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_Stockholm_%281941%29#MS_Stockhol...

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]] Yes, it is! The third M/S Stockholm was built in 1946, and in service for the Swedish American Line in 1948-1959, according to Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_American_Line Read "History: 1946-1951" (The list of Passenger ships in the article tells that she was built in 1948 though...which is contradictory.) The third M/S Stockholm collided with the Andrea Doria in 1956, and was repaired. She was sold to the East German government in January 1960. (Read also the second comment above linking to a Wikipedia article with the ship's story until today.) Thank you Brian for linking to the Wikipedia article about M/S Stockholm (1941) and (1938) - it should well be completed with the third M/S Stockholm (built in 1946 - or 1948). /Anna B.
